Tips To Overcome Procrastination

Procrastination is the source of so many problems that we have to deal with in our lives. Procrastinators put off the big difficult jobs. Procrastinators also put off the small easy jobs. And the longer they procrastinate, the harder it is to take action. Everyone is tempted by procrastination. Successful people have learned to fight it off. Luckily all of use can learn to overcome procrastination with a little self discipline and a plan of action.

Procrastination is a vicious cycle of stress, frustration and defeat. When you learn how to set small goals and accomplish them without procrastination then your self esteem will soar and your stress will decrease. Even if you have been struggling with procrastination your whole life and losing the battle, you can still win the war by starting this very day by taking responsibility for your life and taking action on something you have put off doing.

There are many self help books and online courses that you can refer to to help you overcome procrastination. Just don't fall into the trap of information overload where all you do is continually gather information as an excuse to not take action.

Below are a few tips for helping you to overcome procrastination.

Get in the habit of setting goals. Set your lifetime goals, long term goals, monthly goals, weekly goals and daily goals. Make your daily goals easy to accomplish and make a commitment to complete your daily goals no matter what. That way you are training yourself to accomplish your goals and as you work through your daily goals, your weekly and monthly goals will fall into place automatically.

Learn how to prioritize so that you don't waste important time on trivial matters and procrastinate on important tasks. Learn how to say 'no'. Don't take on more work than realistically possible for you to complete.

Stay in the present. Do not waste precious time worrying over past failures or future failures. Get done what you can accomplish today.

Recognize when you have accomplished a goal and reward yourself in some way. This will reinforce that you are a person who sets goals and meets them.

You can overcome procrastination if you set your mind to it. Doing so will allow you to lead a fuller and more rewarding life. You will have more self esteem and self confidence. Don't put it off. Start right now, set a goal for one small thing you can do today and then get it completed. Make it a habit to do this everyday and before long you will have a whole new set of good habits installed in the place of procrastination.
